Established in 2008, the annual Governor’s Multicultural Awards celebrates the achievements and contributions of individuals, organisations, and communities in South Australia.
Presented by His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AC, Governor of South Australia, the 2020 awards winners were announced last 16 March 2021 at the Government House, Adelaide.
During the said event, multicultural community radio 5EBI 103.1FM received the Media Award and was recognised for its active role in radio broadcasting for the last 45 years advocating for multiculturalism in South Australia.
5EBI broadcasts in 44 different languages each week and the station’s team of more than 200 volunteers have played a critical role in keeping people informed, up-to-date, and safe during the ever-changing COVID-19 crisis. The station, which produces more than 120 hours of local content each week, has also grown during this period, introducing several new programs while working with the local government to ensure critical public health messages are reaching people in non-English speaking families.
